The thing about doorways

I named my practice PassageWay Arts in honor of those times in our lives where we feel “in between”, and the power we have to make them meaningful. Lingering in doorways between one world and the next can be an overwhelming experience, it may feel like there is no where to go and nothing to do. But you don’t have to be alone for this transition. I have an idea; let’s meet up in the hallway and make some magic together!

Helen Keller said “The only way to get to the other side is to go through the door”.

The magic of the in-between

Most people don’t like being in-between. Where is the solid ground when you feel like you are neither here nor there? Yes, there can be a lot of pain and discomfort in these times, and they are also the sacred cocoon in which we evolve.

The term “liminal space” means to be on the precipice of something new but not quite there yet. The phrase was coined in psychotherapeutic and theological studies from the classical word limen, which means “threshold”. Author Richard Rohr writes “Liminality is an inner state and sometimes an outer situation where people can begin to think and act in genuinely new ways. It is when we are betwixt and between, have left one room but not yet entered the next room, any hiatus between stages of life, stages of faith, jobs, loves, or relationships. It is that graced time when we are not certain or in control, when something genuinely new can happen.”

So, with that in mind, I ask you; what passageway are you in, what can you create here, and how can I help you move towards a new life?
